The Caminho de Santiago is one of the oldest and most traveled routes in Europe. This is an ancient route followed by millions of pilgrims since the early ninth century, when the tomb of the Apostle Santiago the Great was discovered.
The Eastern Way runs 397 km divided by 19 stages. In Mértola takes place 3 stages with 65 km of extension. The first stage starts in the village of Mesquita and follows an itinerary along the Guadiana to reach the village of Mértola. The second stage departs from Mértola to reach the village of Amendoeira da Serra and the third stage departs from this village towards the village of Cabeça Gorda, already in the territory of Beja.
This is a Path that invites overcoming and contemplation in an experience that is both physical, sensory and spiritual.
